When considering bunion surgery, two of the biggest questions are how long recovery will take and when you can return to work. Recovery times differ depending on whether you’re sitting at a desk or standing on your feet. Here’s a closer look at what recovery involves and when you may be back to your routine.
Traditional vs. Lapiplasty® Bunion Surgery
Traditional bunion surgery addresses the symptoms by cutting and moving the bone to reduce the appearance of a bump. Yet, the bunion could return since the unstable joint remains.
Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ fixes the unstable joint. Using advanced instrumentation, the surgeon rotates the bone back to its normal position, naturally removing the bump and straightening the toe. The joint is then secured with patented titanium plates, allowing patients to get back on their feet quickly.
What Is the Recovery Time for Lapiplasty®?
Each patient has a different time frame and doctor’s orders based on their condition. However, a general timeline for recovery is as follows. You could bear weight within 10 days in a boot, transition back into wearing comfortable shoes in 6 to 8 weeks, and resume most activities and return to normal footwear in 4 to 6 months.
How Much Time Will I Have To Take Off Work To Recover?
How much time you’d need to take off work following Lapiplasty® varies by your occupation. Most patients who work at a desk can return to work within 5 to 14 days, depending on how they feel. Jobs that require physical labor or long periods of standing require a longer recovery period, with patients returning to those tasks in 4 to 6 weeks.
Get Back on Your Feet
You may be ready to consider surgery if you have persistent foot pain that impedes your normal daily activities and you’ve tried non-surgical treatments, like pain relievers, custom orthotics, and night splints, to no avail.
