What We Treat > Sports Injuries
Sports Injuries
Sports injuries are any kind of injuries that occur during a sporting activity or exercise. Sprains, strains, bone fractures, Achilles tendinitis, and joint dislocations are just a few examples. These can be caused in the foot or ankle due to tight shoes, sudden movement, and especially from physical contact.
Identifying Sports Injuries
Are you involved with competitive or intermural sports? Have you been experiencing pain since your last game? If so, there’s a chance that you have a sports injury. The following sports are more prone to a resulting injury:
- Football
- Hockey
- Martial Arts/Kick Boxing
- Soccer
- Cross Country
Do I Need Surgery?
When in doubt, consult one of our knowledgeable doctors at The Foot & Ankle Center. When RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) isn’t enough, it’s time to give us a visit. Fractures, sprains, and strains may require surgery depending on the severity and how quickly you need to recover for your sport.
Preventative Measures
Sports injuries may occur or reoccur without taking these simple preventative measures:
- Schedule rest days
- Stretch frequently
- Utilize proper padding
